The PackRight Sport 3 Car Top Carrier is the largest car top bag on the market and aerodynamically designed to help save at the gas pump. The carrier is constructed of 600D Hydrotuff material, a UV resistant, waterproof PVC backed polyester. The waterproof ZipRight zipper is urethane coated and located on the protective flap to keep your gear dry. It unzips 3/4 of the way around the bag to provide a large opening for easy loading. For 110% water protection consider adding the PackRight Waterproof Liner. All of the Sport Carriers can be used on vehicles with or without a luggage rack. The included StrapRight Strap Set has 4 nylon straps that hold the carrier to 2 or 4 luggage rack bars. If you do not have a luggage rack you can run the straps around the carrier and through the inside of the vehicle or purchase the Car Clip Strap Set which hooks onto a ledge inside most vehicles’ door frames. Adding the Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad will help hold the carrier in place.

Designed specifically for midsize to large-sized vehicles, the Rightline Gear PackRight Sport 3 Car Top Carrier is the perfect choice for SUVs and minivans. With a carrying capacity rated at a hefty 18 cubic feet and dimensions measured at 48" L x 40" W x 15-18" H, it can easily pack away all but the largest of items that would otherwise overtake the cargo and passenger space of your vehicle. Like all models in the PackRight Sport product line, the Sport 3 can be quickly installed and removed from both vehicles that have cargo racks and those without one. Vehicles without a rack extend the Sport 3's straps into the vehicle cabin and around to the other end of the carrier to provide a secure hold. Alternately the Rightline Gear Car Clip Strap Set and nonskid roof protection pad (each sold separately) allow for securing of the Sport 3 via the upper edges of most vehicle door openings. The Sport 3 also zips open on three sides, allowing for convenient access to stowed contents and can be loaded on the ground, or after placing it on the roof of your vehicle. Finally, not ignoring aesthetics, the Sport 3's attractive two-toned gray and black styling will set your vehicle apart as you haul your extra gear. ZipRight In-The-Flap Technology
Rightline Gear carriers feature the innovative ZipRight zipper system, a urethane coated zipper located on the protective flap to keep rain out. Other bags feature a conventional zipper located at the junction of the protective flap and the bag - right where the wind forcefully drives a large amount of rain water. ZipRight's "in the flap technology" solves this age old car top bag problem minimizing the chance of contact with water by a simple design change. In addition to this, if you would like to be 110% sure of keeping your gear dry, you can add the PackRight waterproof liner (sold separately).
Hydrotuff Two-layer Material
PackRight cargo bags are made from Rightline's specially formulated Hydrotuff material. Hydrotuff consists of a 600 denier woven polyester outer layer mated to a PVC inner layer. The resulting combination is a high quality, great looking, waterproof material perfect for use in cargo bags. Hydrotuff material keeps its properties in extremely hot or cold temperatures. It is rated at UPF50 for UV protection which means it blocks 98% of the sun's harmful rays. In addition, the vivid colors of PackRight cargo bags will not fade over time. Logos are screen printed on the material and sealed in place. Rightline Gear has used Hydrotuff in their bags for years and have had nothing but positive results. The end result is a material that is tough and provides a great looking accent for your vehicle when you have to carry extra gear.

It tore on our first trip; apparently because it was not completely full.According to the instructions, the carrier should only be used if it is completely full. If it is not full, the warranty does not protect against any damage caused by the wind. The instructions specifically state: IMPORTANT: Pack the carrier full so that the sides are pulled tight. This step keeps the load from shifting which may cause the straps to loosen. A fully packed carrier will not flap in the wind. Wind flapping can cause damage by wearing holes in the carrier material. Damage due to wind flapping is NOT covered by warranty. Unfortunately, by the time we received and opened the carrier, we did not have time to return it and get another carrier before our holiday trip. Therefore, we packed everything into suitcases to try to fill out the carrier. We loaded it with 1 large suitcase, 3 medium (21-25" suitcases) and... Left me with lots of room in my Durango. I filled this thing up with 6 large suitcases, filled it til it could barely zip up. Never had a problem with the load shifting once it was strapped in and loaded. I did however have to tighten the straps up every time I stopped for gas, not very much but it did loosen up a little bit. I don't know if it was because of the rain or if I didn't strap it correctly.(read cons) Cons: If you want to keep your stuff dry you have to buy a liner separately. It rained every single day throughout my trip and needless to say all my luggage was soaked along with most of my clothes. My fault for not buying the liner but not that big of a deal really, just had to wash everything over again. Also the straps were a bit confusing for me. Maybe I'm just a dummy. Took me a few minutes to figure out where and how to put the straps because the directions... We were able to pack all our soft luggage and then some for a 5 day trip. We did hit some severe rain storms along the way and anything that was near the seams did get damp. I would suggest the waterproof liner if you need waterproof. I think I will just use the heavy duty trash bags offered at home improvement stores for our next journey. We were quite happy with the extra room inside the car! |
